Here is a round up for the last two and half months of the 20/21 season.
Winter has been generous to many but unkind to few. Champions Liverpool may have thrashed Crystal Palace 7-0 but recent defeats to Burnley, Brighton, Southampton and draws against Fulham, West Brom and Newcastle may suggest that Liverpool’s title defence is on thin ice.
January 2021 was the quietest transfer in nine years, premier league clubs spent a collective £70 million, which is £1.6 million less than what Chelsea paid for out of favour goal keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018.
But we cannot ignore how tight the title race is at the moment. Closest one to happen in many years With only 7 points separating the top four as we now approach the second half of the season, it’s safe to say that we can expect a few more twists and turns before the end of the season.
First and foremost we must congratulate the winners: Lee Taylor topping the league in December. Second place was Adam Taylor and third was Keith Forrest. I ‘graciously declined’ the manager of the month tipple? I was given the choice of fizz or non-fizz, and only when delivered did I graciously decline the Spring Water!
But, January saw my dramatic fall from grace. Coming in 50th position! Comparable to Liverpool’s recent league performances! And akin to Manchester City creeping up the table, Will David of Jane Chewins Limited racked up the points and took the January Manager of the Month. Delivery may take some time as Cheshire has had their fair share of snow and ice!
The current leader of the overall league is Clive Bevan of Brown Bevan. Can he stay the course or will he drop points when it matters, just like his beloved Nottingham Forest?!
