Back in June we ran a competition to find “Everyday Heroes” in the insurance broking community.
We know that brokers have worked tremendously hard to keep their businesses going in lockdown and we commend every single one of you, but behind the scenes of the COVID-19 outbreak there are thousands of positive stories of “Everyday Heroes” in the insurance industry and beyond.
We asked you to nominate your Everyday Hero who would win the following: a £250 donation to a charity of the winner’s choice, a personal gift of flowers plus goodies for the staff at the nominating brokerage.
We had many amazing nominations and it was hard to pick a winner but we eventually managed to decide on someone we felt had really gone above and beyond to help the community and deserved this recognition.
The nomination came from Deborah at David J Killen & Co (Insurance Services) Limited. Deborah nominated Barrie – Barrie is a bus driver who has worked throughout lockdown taking key workers to and from work each day. Many bus drivers have lost their lives during this sad time and the industry received little praise and appreciation for the service they provide. Not only has Barrie continued to work during lockdown but after a long day at work, he comes home and helps his two elderly neighbours by taking their dogs for walks every day as they are in the vulnerable category and had to isolate for 12 weeks.
The judges were impressed with Barrie’s attitude and we want to say a huge thank you for Barrie for everything he has done for his community, and we really think he is an Everyday Hero.
The team at Stride Underwriting thank you for all your wonderful nominations. Every single one touched our hearts and we’ve loved reading examples of how the community really pulls together in such difficult times – you are all heroes.
